My name is Allyson and this is my family.
I did what every parent in that situation would do. I sat the family down and talked about the whole house going gluten free. We purged the kitchen and went on a family adventure to the local store.There were a few things for us to try, but the few that were completely safe were either tasteless sawdust or hockey pucks.
By the end of the second week all 5 kids were grumpy and so was I. I wanted to bake again, show my family the foodie love and so began my quest. I was determined to find something we would like that he could eat. hundreds of fruitless dollars later, I decide to take the matter into my own hands. I would bake yummy gluten free goodies or die on the alter of good taste with smears of rice flour on my face.
There were some spectacular failures in the beginning. I can’t tell you how many times I stood in my kitchen grumbling at the oven asking “why won’t you just rise” and recalculating yet again the flour blends I was making. Quick breads would bake on the outside and be raw in the middle. Brownies became ice cream sundae toppings. There was tweeking and temperature modification, so many ingredient changes that sometimes I lost track.
My need to care for my family by feeding them something healthy has become my passion. I have spent years perfecting these recipes. Let me make your quest so much easier than mine was.
